5 questions for… Joseph Simon

21 February 2019

Classical ballet and urban dance. For some these might be two different worlds, but choreographer Joseph Simon feels home in both. In Chameleon he researches the different movement languages he himself embodies. He asks himself the question: Can I be a chameleon?

What is indispensable in your work?

”A funky element, an element of movement research and
something intellectual.”

What do you love to do after a day of hard work?

”To feel the tingly showers of release in my overloaded
nervous system as all the information starts to move while I sit still, and to cook funky Japanese twisted meals with my best friend.”

What would you like to tell people?

”I would like to encourage them to enjoy their human capacity to create meaning inside this world of confusion.”

What is your guilty pleasure?

”Matcha green tea sweets and creating slightly commercial choreography.”

Where do you see yourself in five years?

”Grounded in my body.”
