Choreographer and programme maker Jasper van Luijk has been appointed as the new artistic coordinator of Moving Futures. Previously, the artistic direction was in the hands of the five dance production houses Dansmakers Amsterdam, Dansateliers, DansBrabant, De Nieuwe Oost and Random Collision. The appointment of Van Luijk is the next step in the independence of Moving Futures and the further development of the artistic identity of the festival. The dance houses will remain involved as programme councils and provide input.
Jasper van Luijk developed himself as a choreographer at De Nieuwe Oost and was part of the Moving Futures Festival with his performances Yonder (2015) and The definition of now (2016). As choreographer/artistic director of his company SHIFFT and with his experience as artistic director of dance at the ITs Festival and programme maker at the Café Theater Festival, Van Luijk can use his knowledge of the dance field to create a solid artistic vision for Moving Futures.
“Van Luijk is a sharp thinker and does not hesitate to stimulate and question. He knows what the festival can mean for a developing dance artist and sees many opportunities to build a clear profile of the festival with a major role for its creators. We are very much looking forward to this collaboration”. – Kristin de Groot, director of Dansateliers, board member Moving Futures
“Moving futures has meant a lot to me at the beginning of my career. I look forward to developing the festival further, together with a new generation of choreographers, dancers and audience”. – Jasper van Luijk
